An Interesting Idea For StarBowl

Postby Blue is the Colour » Mon Jul 19, 2010 1:24 pm

With the formation of the new Midget league, how will StarBowl be run in future years? I think I have a solution. Rather then selecting 2 teams of Midget players, I propose we form 1 team comprising the very best coaches and players from the BC Midget League to take on Team BC prior to next years Football Canada Cup. Since Team BC is "technically" run by Football BC and not BC High School Football, it seems reasonable that it could happen. This eliminates many of the problems that prevent HS and Midget teams from playing each other. Team BC played BK Rams this year, so they can't complain about the age difference. This would also provide a great chance for scouts to see BC's best players all in one place. I'm sure our boys would be extremely motivated to lay a real beating on the HS. I've compiled a list of some of the players we could have used this year. I challenge anybody to tell me this group wouldn't be a match for Team BC.

Offense:

QB - Cody Parray (Chilliwack) Liam Howe (North Langley) Kurtis Bardua (WRSS) Alex Beaudoin (Nanaimo) Brandon Leyh (North Delta)

RB
- Kyle Albertini (Mission) Jordan Henderson (Victoria) Josh Hayden (Chilliwack) Matt Van Geel (Chilliwack) Josh Dunks (Cloverdale) Taylor Braaksma (Mission) Robbie Yochim (Kelowna) Malcolm Lewis (North Langley)

Recievers
- BB Uppal (North Delta) Sharif Ali (North Delta) Robbie Gallauger (Cloverdale)
Jeremy Filipek (Langley) Jim Culley (North Langley) Whitman Tomusiak (Nanaimo)
Tyrone VanHoorn (North Surrey) Ashraf Gayat (Nanaimo) Zack Henderson (Nanaimo)

OL - Dan Apperloo (Chilliwack) John-Mark Welsh (North Langley) Tyler Oldendorf (Chilliwack) Rick Keen (Nanaimo) Kyle Nitchie (North Surrey) Elliot Jones (Cowichan)

Defense:

DL - Usman Ahmad (Chilliwack) Cole Herrmann (Chilliwack) Jordan Houweling (Chilliwack) Mark Middleton (Chilliwack) Jeff Hughes (Langley) Taylor Braaksma (Mission) Any number of big DTs that I dont know by name.

LB - Blake Schaufelberger (Mission) Arie Nakagawa (Chilliwack) Josh Dunks (Cloverdale)
Lukas Miner (Nanaimo) Jeff Cornwall (Coquitlam) Chris Pastro (Cowichan) Several of the Kelowna guys

DB - Scott Charles (Langley) Cole Samson (Nanaimo) Kyle Albertini (Mission) Cody Hawkins (North Delta)

Special Teams:

K - Cole Samson

I love the idea. Any 17 year olds from midget who could be on Team BC but don't get chosen, for whatever reason, would be stoked to get the chance too. lol

Glad to see everyone likes the idea :D. I don't see a good reason why this wouldn't work, we have a year to plan it. What do some of the decision makers think? Chaos/BCCFA1/ninermidgetcoach etc I'm sure you guys have an opinion.

Me too. but I like it. basically hs vs community. I would like to hear 1 good reason why this would be bad for football.

I love the Idea. Now your talkin.
One question I ask, Is there a way to expose more players to it? You would only get an average 2 per team at this format.
Heres an add on to the idea......Would a large camp with the 40 best players making the team, work out better?
NL Coach J....why such a nay sayer? If you don't think it will happen and like it....put you foot forward...get hold of the Team BC people, see if they are into it. If they are, draw up a plan, bring it forward to Community level....if nothing gets done and you have tried to make it work......then comments like that are warranted......if you are going to complain or be negative, be prepared to step up and fix it....... remember, if you don't step forward, that means you would be part of the problem.

Nothing like seeing a high school punter returner signal a fair catch while playing Canadian rules, catch the ball then just put it on the ground without knowing it is a live ball.   Saw it twice last year in community ball. Once each in Bantam and Midget. I guess they forgot where they were playing. Good job by the officials in those games for not blowing the play dead.

So, is it a foregone conclusion that Team BC will always only be made up of HS players and not community midget players?

Basically yes, but if they can play BK Rams they can play us.

In my mind the plan would be to assemble an all-star team of coaches (HC/OC/DC/ST as well as positional). Those coaches would run a tryout camp for the top 80-100 players to narrow it down to the best 40. It's also important that we pick the best people (players and coaches) regardless of league position. If we do go ahead with this, it's imperative that we put in the proper amount of planning to ensure that we have the absolute best chance of winning.

Maybe I'll come out of retirement and you could assist me. I have a few trick plays that no one will predict. Don't tell anyone but, I like to Punt on first down.

When you say graduating 17 year olds, do you mean kids that just graduated, or kids just going into grade 12?

Why the hate-on for HS football? Like the rest of you, I prefer the Canadian game, and wish the High schools would play Canadian rules. They don't though, so the kids play US rules. They're still playing football though, right?

Some of you seem so gleeful over the possibility of winning a game and rubbing the HS players and coaches' noses into it that I think you're forgetting these kids are... kids. And they're playing the sport they love.

I agree 100% with SDmom.
Your egos are getting to big and all you want is a game of superbowl proportions of community vs HS.
That would NOT be good for our sport.
The Starbowl as is almost came to an end for that reason
Some of you need to give your head a shake!
