From Midgets to Juniors

Postby halloffamer » Mon Jul 26, 2010 11:40 am

Here is a listing of 2009 Midget players who have been reported to be on rosters of the BCFC Junior teams. This listing is not complete, may have errors, and may otherwise need updating by those in the know. It would be nice to get it as accurate and complete a listing as possible. Of course, there are also many former Midgets on these teams from past years.

VANCOUVER ISLAND RAIDERS:

Kurtis Bardua QB - WRSS Tirans
Elliot Jones DB - Cowichan Bulldogs
Arie Nakagawa LB - Chilliwack Giants
Tyler Oldendorf OL - Chilliwack Giants
Whitman Tomusiak REC - Nanaimo Redmen
Tyrone Van Hoorn REC - North Surrey Bears
Mike Watson OL - Cowichan Bulldogs

VICTORIA REBELS

Mike Barry DB - Victoria Spartans
Kyle Colwell LB - Victoria Spartans
Eric Eggleston REC - Victoria Spartans
Niles Goguen RB - Victoria Spartans
Bryce Rands OL - Victoria Spartans

BIG KAHUNA SOUTH SURREY RAMS

Kyle Nitchie OL - North Surrey Bears
Jeffrey Hughes OL - Langley Stampeders
* Current lack of clarity in terms of roster placement for another 10 or so 2009 Midgets so I didn't include them yet. This may be resolved shortly.

CHILLIWACK HUSKERS

Dan Coffin - Chilliwack Giants
Matt Redekop - Chilliwack Giants

OKANAGAN SUN

Tynan Pierce - Kelowna Midget Sun

KAMLOOPS BRONCOS

No 2009 Midgets apparently reported on roster or at least known.

You could also include Nathaniel White, Big Kahuna Rams QB, former WRSS Titans Bantam QB. Finished his high school in US before returning to help coach WR Bantams last year.

This might be for another thread, but I was looking at this list and thought that it was a shame that out of 16+ teams in Midget in 2009 we have only placed barely 1 roster full of players to Junior.

With only 6 Junior teams in BC now and their penchant for signing out of province recruits, is it not time for BC football to consider a change to our age groups to include 19yr olds?

you mean that you support juvenile chaos? next thing you will want unlimited 18 year olds. i was nearly lynched the last time i brought up 19 year olds in midget.

perhaps another dessert meeting may be in order.

you are right brent. but football b.c would have nothing to do with division age changes. we would always compete with junior for 18 and 19 year old players, but the ones who wanted to play midget would have an option. there are loads of 19 year old who would love to get another year of midget in. this would be a b.c. midget league, v.m.f.l., v.c.f.l. and b.c.c.f.a. mandate. considering we are all one happy family now...who knows.

my original thought was changing bantam to 14-15-16, midget to 17-18-19. it is your turn to shoot this down guys. i would be interested in others opinions.

Chaos has been in favour of unlimited 18 year olds and a 19 year old juvenile division for years . just check his 2006 posts. Unlimited then , but not now? I know it is summer, but the sound of those flip-flops just drives me crazy> :P Chaos, if you don't like me bringing up the past, you can beat me up in 2 weeks if you can

I would be totally in favour of having 17/18/19 Midget from 2011 onwards.

Ya Brent, I was thinking like that as well. But another way they go in other provinces is they keep Bantam at 14-15, then have Midget at 16-17 and then have Juvenile at 18-19.

We have sent a ton of guys to Junior in the last few years, but we have also had a ton of guys that don't go on that would have stayed to play another year.

We would obviously compete for players with Jr but we do now anyways. But out of 25 18 yr olds on our roster last year, 3 are playing Jr and 22 are done with football. Just seems wrong.

it is wrong that they have no place to play. i have received numerous phone calls from graduating players wondering if they could come back.

the reason i dont think a 16-17 year old division would work is because it would be in direct conflict with high school senior varsity. high school would win in competition for players. bantams would excel with three age groups and midget would add 19 year olds.

we need to do things differently and creatively to advance and build community football in b.c.

I like the idea of bantam being 14-16 and midget being 17-19. That helps to establish the calibre of ball for both age groups to be much higher than JV and Varsity and would allow for teams with bigger numbers. I also think that it would help junior in the long run with players coming with more experience.

thats true. there will always be some 18 and 19 year olds who will still want to try junior, but i beleive most will play midget if it is offered to them.
