Four possible options.

Postby Ref-42 » Tue May 25, 2010 8:47 am

Here is a play discussed this weekend:

Team A is leading by 3 points, late in the fourth quarter. Team A is 3rd & 10 from their own 4 yard line. Quarterback A10 takes the snap and runs deep into the end zone with the intent of giving up a safety. Before he steps out of bounds, A82 is flagged for a Crack Back Block. (It doesn't matter where this block took place.) A10 eventually steps out of bounds giving up the safety.(There is a minute left on the clock)

What are the FOUR options that the Referee can give the Team B Captain?

I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can give you the formula for failure-- Try to please everybody.

Hmmmm.........I'm gonna guess this:

Option 1: allow score and have 15 yard penalty applied to team A kickoff
Option 2: allow score and have 15 yard penaltly applied and scrimmage at own 50
Option 3: allow score and have 15 yard penalty applied and kickoff from own 50
Option 4: accept penalty and have team A repeat 3rd down on it's own 2.

I think that maybe a UR or rough play type penalty cannot be declined??

You're three out of four correct...on the last one, single UR's are unrestricted, so Team A would repeat 3rd down at the 1 yard line instead of the 2. Probably the least palatable option IMO.
